Nomination papers for elected city office will be available next week, beginning Monday.

Would-be candidates can pick up the nominations and petitions for 16 elected offices at the City Clerk’s office on Monday. They have until 4:30 p.m. Sept. 9 to return the nomination forms.

Candidates for the mayor’s chair must collect signatures from at least 100 qualified Lewiston voters by the Sept. 5 deadline. Candidates for the seven City Council and the eight School Committee must collect signatures from 50 registered voters from their ward.

Candidates must be at least 20 years old, have been registered Lewiston voters in their ward since June 9. The two-year terms for each position are set to begin Jan. 3, 2006.

Lisbon: Bond papers signed

Selectmen have signed papers to obtain a $500,000 Cleaner Water State Revolving Water Fund Bond that will be used for installing a new grit and removal system at the wastewater treatment plant. The bond, which was approved at the May town meeting is a part of an $850,000 project at the treatment plant. By going with the bond, Town Manager Curtis Lunt expects it will save taxpayers about $200,000 in financing costs over a 20-year period.

Lisbon: Licenses granted for eateries

New victualer’s licenses have been granted to Dana Farnum d/b/a Dana’s Hot Dogs and Amelia Peter-Paul d/b/a MicMac Snack Shack. Renewals have issued to David Dube, d/b/a Walking Dogs and to Casa Mia Inc. for an off premises catering permit.

The town has increased special amusement and itinerant vendor’s license renewal fees by $25. An additional fee of $25 (over and above renewals) will be charged new applicants to cover costs for the town’s required background checks, which the state no longer does for free.

Lisbon: Curtis named to Rec Committee

Selectmen have accepted Brian Michaud’s resignation from the Recreation Committee, due to his relocation, and named Carroll Curtis as his replacement.

Other yearly appointments include Harry Gorman and Harry Darling as civil constables; Jack Arndt and Kelsey Purinton to the Conservation Commission; and Cheryl Haggerty and Agnieszka to the Planning Board.

Everett Kaherl, Mark Tupper, Sean Kaherl and Loretta Martin were appointed to the Recreation Committee.
