POLAND – Erin Woodsome, an elementary school special education teacher in Freeport, has been hired to help lead Poland Community School.

Woodsome was one of 36 educators who applied to replace Assistant Principal Harvey Leighton. Principal Carolyn Johnson called Woodsome an “outstanding” candidate whose competence, capability and experience made her stand out. Woodsome has taught for more than 20 years and has experience in special education, literacy education and alternative programs, Johnson said. Woodsome currently teaches special education at the Mast Landing School in Freeport.

The Poland School Committee approved Woodsome on Wednesday. She will start July 1.

Leighton, the current assistant principal, has been hired to teach at Bruce M. Whittier Middle School in Poland.
