SABATTUS – Selectmen will meet every Tuesday to help residents sooner and shorten the length of the biweekly meetings.

Chairman Gino Camardese said the change will benefit the entire town.

“By doing this, problems may be addressed sooner,” he said. “They won’t have to wait for the next meeting to bring it to the board’s attention, which at times can be three weeks away and at that point be too late.” He is also hoping weekly meetings will be less busy and result in early adjournments. Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. at the town office.

Officials said they have been having difficulties with the sudden influx of businesses popping up in town. “Businesses must go through the Planning Board for approval and signs have to be approved by the code enforcement officer,” Town Clerk Robin Dulac said. “This practice has not been occurring.”

Although fines have not been issued to date, the code officer is working with the town to stop violations of town policies.

In other town matters, Martin’s Point will be the center of activity on Sabattus Pond when Sabattus Central School eighth-graders do a cleanup June 8. Students will pick up loose trash and place various plants throughout the grounds.

The Sabattus Pond Watershed Partnership will hold its annual barbecue at Martin’s Point on June 25. The partnership is made up of Sabattus, Greene and Leeds residents aiming to teach residents about the pond and protect its ecosystem.
