A former Lewiston school principal will join Auburn’s Charter Commission.

Sue Martin, associate director of the Center for Service Learning at Bates College, will replace Dave Adams on the commission. Adams died in March after a head-on crash on Route 26 in Oxford. Because Adams was an elected member of the commission, his replacement was appointed by Charter Commission members. Some members of the commission were appointed by the City Council.

Martin has been an area educator for years. She served as principal at Farwell Elementary School in Lewiston for 14 years, ending in 1998. She also taught classes at Lewiston-Auburn College before going to Bates.

Martin said she hopes she’ll broaden the perspective of the Charter Commission.

Commissioners have been meeting since January, working to rewrite the city’s founding document. The group’s next meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 25, at Auburn Hall.
