PORTLAND – There will be something of interest for the whole family at the Maine Mineralogical and Geological Society’s 22nd annual Gem and Mineral Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 12 and 13, at Finley Gym, University of New England, 716 Stevens Ave.
Each year the society invites retail dealers who present jewelry, cut gems, rough stones, fossils and mineral specimens. One of the society’s primary purposes is to interest the community, especially children, in minerals and geology. The show offers children a mini-mine, mineral wheel of fortune, a hands-on mineral exhibit and coloring area.
It also features a fluorescent mineral display, gold panning exhibit and other attractions. All attending qualify for hourly door prizes and the grand prize drawing at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and teens under 18 and free for children 12 and under. For directions or more information, contact Roberta Goldsmith, show chairwoman, at [email protected] or 459-7986.
