MECHANIC FALLS – Student interest is high for the first Monopoly tournament to be hosted by the tri-town Optimist Club. However, local basketball programs have prompted the club to postpone the event until sometime in the spring.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, the tournament for players 10 years old and older has been postponed, with the new date to be announced later, said Dana Lee, club treasurer.

The tournament will be open to people in Mechanic Falls, Poland and Minot.

At least half of the proceeds will go to the Children’s Cancer Fund, a cause supported by Optimists International, said Lee. First and second place winners will receive cash prizes.
