GRAY – A free seminar on so-called “dirty bombs” will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, in Stimson Hall in Gray Village.

There has been much discussion in the media about attacks using “dirty bombs,” which are explosives designed to spread radioactive material over a wide area. The seminar will address the response by emergency medical professionals to such events.

The lecture and discussion will be sponsored by the Gray Region Citizen Corps. The speaker will be a Maine Medical Center emergency physician, Dr. John R. Saucier.

The general public is welcome, and local emergency medical personnel are especially invited to this lecture, for which they will receive continuing education credit.

Volunteers from the nonprofit Gray Region Citizen Corps provide monthly safety and emergency preparedness seminars on the second Friday of the month to residents from Yarmouth to Casco.

More information about the federal Citizen Corps program can be found at www.citizencorps.gov. Its motto is “Uniting Communities – Preparing the Nation.” The local group publishes a monthly electronic newsletter. Messages for the GRCC may be left with the Gray Public Safety Department at 657-3931.
