Earlier this week, the pre-schoolers at Tigger Two Nursery School on Grove Street in Lewiston learned about the history of Thanksgiving and painted their own pictures of the Mayflower. Here is what some of them had to say when asked how they spend the day and how their family prepares the main course:

How do you cook a turkey?

Patrick Langley, 4

“Our turkey comes from the forest. My dad shoots it. He brings it home and my mom puts salt on it and puts it in the oven for 20 minutes. Then we eat it and that’s it.”

Ally Lalonde, 4

“My mom gets a turkey somewhere. She brings it home. She puts it in the oven and it’s nice because everybody shares all of the food.”

Maranda Jacobs, 4

“My mom puts it in the stove. She makes it with tomatoes and butter. Sometimes she lets me do the butter. I just put on a little, little bit.”

Savanna Paakkonen, 4

“My pepere is going to cook it. Sometimes he lets me help. I put the salt all over it, then it goes in the oven for six or five minutes.”

Haylee Williams, 3

“My mom puts butter on it. It goes in the oven for 10 minutes and we eat it.”

What do you do on Thanksgiving?

Ally Lalonde, 4

“Every Thanksgiving, my brother eats all of the mini-pickles and he gets sick.”

Maranda Jacobs, 4

“I always go under the table and play. I bring my turkey with me.”

Patrick Langley, 4

“We celebrate because the Pilgrims sailed on a boat called the Mayflower and landed on Plymouth Rock. Then the Indians gave them corn and it was called Thanksgiving.”
