LITCHFIELD – Voters at the annual town meeting Saturday will consider a proposal for $425,000 in bonds for infrastructure and capital improvements.
Town Manager Steve Musica said that if all of the spending items are approved, it is not likely the tax rate would increase significantly.
Proposed spending increases in this year’s municipal budget total about 7 percent, Musica said. Other factors that would help to determine how much taxes might increase, including assessments, haven’t been determined.
The current tax rate is $19.60.
“We’ve held that two years in a row,” Musica said.
Proposed spending items include purchases of a new plow truck, loader and pickup truck for the Public Works Department, and a generator for the fire station. Other items include a lease buyout of the town’s backhoe, replacement of the roof on the academy, an addition to the town garage, and two new storage buildings.
Voters will also be asked to increase the hours of the code enforcement officer from 18 to 32 hours.
Another article will ask voters to adopt a land-use ordinance, which Musica called the biggest implementation tool of the comprehensive plan that was approved several years ago. “We’ve tweaked it. I think it’s a good document right now,” he said.
The town meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 12 at Carrie Ricker Middle School.
