LEWISTON – A local man was ordered to spend six months in prison Wednesday for lying on written forms while trying to buy a gun from an Auburn pawn shop.

Michael Kidd, 36, of Lewiston, pleaded guilty to a charge of making false statements while buying a shotgun from Webster’s Trading in February 2003.

According to prosecutors, Kidd pawned a Maverick 12-gauge at Webster’s in January of that year. He returned more than a month later and tried to buy the gun back, investigators said.

Police said Kidd lied on an Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives form that asked if he had been convicted of any felony in the past. Investigators said Kidd wrote on the form that he had not been convicted of felony crimes.

When the document was submitted to the National Instant Check System, it was revealed that Kidd was convicted of seven felonies between 1988 and 2002. Nearly all of the crimes were driving offenses, according to court records.

The case was investigated by the the ATF and the Central Maine Violent Crime Task Force.
