AUGUSTA – While some pharmacies such as Rite Aid will not honor the prescription discounts provided by Maine Rx Plus, which begins Saturday, many pharmacies will, according to Gov. John Baldacci’s administration.
Pharmacies that agree to give discounts of between 10 to 60 percent to Maine Rx Plus cardholders include:
In Lewiston-Auburn:
The Medicine Shoppe, Shaw’s, CVS and Hannaford.
Elsewhere:
Howards Rexall Drug in Farmington; Ketner Pharmacy in Norway; McFalls Pharmacy in Mechanic Falls; Naples Professional Pharmacy in Naples; Rumford Drug Store in Rumford; and Hannaford pharmacies in Jay, Farmington, Topsham, Oxford and Rumford.
Deeper, 60 percent discounts will be given for generic prescriptions; brand-name drugs will be discounted less, 10 to 25 percent.
The Department of Human Services said Wednesday that it received nearly 1,000 calls to its help line from residents interested in signing up for the program.
“We are pleased that such an extraordinary number of people have called to sign up for Maine Rx Plus,” said Trish Riley, director of the Governor’s Office of Health Policy and Finance. “This is tangible proof of how important this program will be for Maine people.”
The program is open to middle-income residents who do not have prescription insurance.
