Dear Sun Spots: As state historian, I am preparing an exhibition of a century of Maine gubernatorial campaign buttons to be shown at the State House in January. The exhibit will feature enlarged copies of pins, from Gov. John Hill in 1900 to Gov. John Baldacci in 2002. One button which I am lacking is that of Louis J. Brann of Lewiston, who ran successfully for governor in 1932 and 1934, but was defeated in a third try for the Blaine House in 1938. If any of your readers has a Brann for Governor pin, I would like to borrow it to copy for use in the show. I can be reached at (207) 287-2132, [email protected] or Earle G. Shettleworth Jr., Director, Maine Historic Preservation Commission, 55 Capitol St., 65 State House Station, Augusta, Maine 04333-0065. – Earle Shettleworth, Augusta.
Dear Sun Spots: I need help in locating a woman who hand crafts blueberry-cluster dangling earrings. I purchased a pair from her in the craft building at the Fryeburg Fair a few years ago, and since then I have lost one of the earrings. I want to replace the set if possible. I understand her last name is Dwyer and she is from the Wiscasset area. But that is all the information I have for now. I have been told she was at the Augusta Armory recently but I wasn’t able to attend. If anyone knows how I can contact her I really would appreciate it. Thanking you in advance for your help. – Lorraine Poirier, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: I’ve seen you find addresses for others over the years. Can you find addresses for two actors, James Woods and Dawid Minnar, for me? Thank you for your help. – Lori in Lewiston
Answer: Contact James Woods via e-mail at [email protected] or via post at 760 N.La Cienega Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90069-5231.
Unfortunately, Sun Spots has not been able to locate an address for Minnar. However, you may be able to reach him via the Handspring Puppet Company at www.handspringpuppet.co.za/html/frameind.html or via mail at 15a Clairvaux Road, Kalk Bay 7975 Cape Town, South Africa.
In addition, you might be interested in noting that Minnaar completed drama studies at the universities of Cape Town and Stellenbosch, started his career as a professional actor in 1981 and has been in the field ever since. He has worked extensively on stage throughout South Africa, in several television series and film. His work with Handspring Puppet Company includes “Faustus in Africa,” “Ubu and the Truth Commission,” “Zeno at 4 a.m.” and “Confessions.”
Dear Sun Spots: On Nov. 10, the Sun Journal printed an article about a fire on Sabattus Lake. One of the victims of this tragedy is my brother. The others are close friends. These gentlemen have lost all of their belongings, and I was hoping that Sun Spots readers would be willing to help. If anyone has any contributions that they would be willing to donate, their generosity would be greatly appreciated. It is my hope that these donations will help to bring some light on the victims’ holiday season. I can be reached at (207) 754-0474, please leave a message. Thank you very much and Happy Holidays. – Stacey Robitaille, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: Does anyone have a tape I could borrow of the Nov. 10 episode of “West Wing”? If so, I can be reached at (207) 998-2767. – Stan, No Town.
