Jeff Morris of Lewiston, a teacher at Franklin Alternative School, trains Tuesday at Thorncrag Sanctuary in Lewiston for his upcoming traverse of the Presidential Mountain range in New Hampshire. He enjoys the ups and downs, and says the half-mile of very steep grade is steep as anything in the White Mountains. With 20 to 40 pounds of weight on his back, he sets different goals each time he hikes, sometimes speeding around the sanctuary three times as fast as he can, other times repeating the steepest section five times in a row.
