RCAM meeting
LEEDS – The 36th annual meeting of the Rural Community Action Ministry will be held at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at the office on 81 Church Hill Road. The regular business meeting will include election of a new slate of board officers. The public is invited.
Kids’ ecology trip
FALMOUTH – Maine Audubon will offer a coastal ecology trip for young people ages 10 to 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16.
Led by Karen Hoydick, the group will convene at Gilsland Farm Audubon Center in Falmouth, then set off for Cape Elizabeth to explore tide pools, dunes and beaches and the animals that live there.
An environmental educator and director of the summer day camp at Gilsland Farm Audubon Center, Hoydick has a master’s degree in environmental education and has been a naturalist and educator for the Appalachian Mountain Club.

Meeting change
ROCKPORT – The Mid-Maine Rose Society will meet for lunch at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Helm Restaurant, Route 1.
Dr. Lois Stack Berg, Cooperative Extension specialist, will speak at 1 p.m. She will discuss “Roses for Maine,” the UMO hardiness trials at Rogers Farm in Stillwater. Maine. This is a change of place for the society’s September meeting.
Visiting Day
LIMESTONE – The Maine School of Science and Mathematics, a member of the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology and Maine’s only public residential magnet chartered school, will host Visiting Day for high school freshmen and sophomores on Saturday. Sept. 30.
Students will tour the residence hall and academic building, learn about the curriculum and the opportunities the school provides during a faculty/student panel presentation.
Freshmen and sophomores interested in applying for the 2007-2008 academic year are encouraged to begin their applications as soon as possible as the application priority review date is Feb. 16, 2007. Applicants must take either the PSAT or SAT I test as part of the application process.
