FARMINGTON — Franklin Health Women’s Care announces that Dr. Susan Kearing recently received board certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, one of 24 specialty boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

ABOG certification recognizes clinical competence at a level above that required for licensure. Those physicians who successfully complete the requirements and pass the board examinations have documented their commitment to the highest level of professionalism in patient care.

The requirements for board certification include four years of specialized residency training in areas dealing with preconceptional health, pregnancy, labor and childbirth, postpartum care, genetics, genetic counseling and prenatal diagnosis following graduation from a medical school; passing a written test to demonstrate that he or she has obtained the special knowledge and skills required for medical and surgical care of women and passing an oral examination given by a team of well-respected national experts that tests the physician’s skills, knowledge and ability to treat different conditions.

Dr. Kearing joined Franklin Health Women’s Care in 2007. She received her medical degree from Midwestern University in Glendale, Ariz., and subsequently completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
