A Chinese auction of epic proportion recently ended the annual calendar sale at St. Dom’s. Ten randomly selected students who sold thirteen or more calendars participated in the auction by choosing an empty cardboard box, turning it around and receiving (or trading) the revealed prize, represented by a picture. The rewards included digital cameras, DVD players, a mini refrigerator, one-hundred dollars in cash, a TV and a telescope. Money and concert tickets were also given out as an appetizer to the grand finale of calendar sale rewards.

The calendar sale has been a tradition for years, as it is Saint Dom’s most crucial fundraiser. Profits directly pay for school necessities and help keep tuition stable. Each calendar contains black-and-white photos of sports, extracurricular activities and daily school life, as well as student birthdays. The $25 purchase also enters the buyer in a daily raffle, where cash prizes range from $25 to $1000. Perks for scholars who sold a certain number of calendars included relaxed dress code, movie passes and money.
