As we all know, this year’s Halloween is over and I personally hope that you all had a great and safe Halloween, especially you trick-or-treaters. Halloween is a time for kids to pretend to be someone they are not for a whole night. It was a night I cherished as a kid and a night that I still come to love. In fact, just because I am sixteen-years-old, it doesn’t mean that I still can’t dress up and go trick-or-treating. So, on Halloween night, I took my little sister and her friends out to go trick or treating and I even allowed myself another night of fun.

For this year’s Halloween, my friend, Candi Tremblay and I decided to dress up- We got together every single night of the week of Hafloween to perfect our Halloween costumes. This year, we decided to be a pair of dice.

Now, how do people go along being a pair of dice you ask? Well, my fellow reader, it’s actually very simple! Some day when you have kids of your own, you can look back and remember reading about this in a high school girl’s newspaper article and can dress up your kid(s) in a simple, cheap and creative costume. This is a very cheap costume to make which is why we chose it. It totalled, I believe, $4.

NOW, to get started, find a square box that you can easily slide yourself into and somewhat takes the shape of a dice. Now, being careful, flip the box over and cut holes in the bottom of the box and on the sides; these holes later become the holes for your head and your arms so make sure they’re big enough. Also, cut out the top flaps so you can wear the box. Make sure you put the box on inbetween cutting periods to make sure it still fits! When this task is complete, spray-paint the box(es) white. Allow, at least one night to dry this way you dont make a mess. The following night or so, cut out an appropiate size circle of a durable substance (we used cardboard and strong poster board), hold it on the box and spray paint the cut out circle area black. (Note: it helps to be looking at a pair of dice so you know what the dots look like.) Allow yet another night to dry. When you are done you should have five sides with black dots and a very creative looking dice. Following this, wear black pants and a long sleeved black shirt or body suit to coordinate with the box’s colors, even black or white shoes look nice too.

At my high school, Monmouth Academy, we hold an annual Halloween Costume Contest The Student Council held two contests, one for teachers and one for the kids, to make it fair. This year’s prizes were money for the teachers and candy for the kid contestants. There were many creative and cute costumes, but unfortunately, only a selected number could win. The spots and costumes went as follows:

Teacher Contest

1) Ms. Elizabeth Garett (the tooth fairy)

2) Mrs. Susan Elliot (a fire hydrant)

Kid Contest

1) Juniors: Jessica Gray, Ashley Taylor, Angela St. Peter (Oompa Loom pas)

2) Sophmore : Eden Burgeron (Vampire), Senior: Ryan Pugh (Jason from Friday the 13th Part 2)

3) Juniors: Anna Epishkina (Vampire), Ashley Cote (dice). Senior: Greg Crocker (Sumo Wrestler)

Honorable Mention: Freshman: Emily Vachon (Fairy)

Thanks for all the other contestant participants and judges for their contribution to the contest Also, thanks to Student Council for setting it up and giving out the prizes, it was a great Halloween day and night and I can’t wait for next year. I’ll be a senior, and I’m going all out. Hmm… I wonder….is it too early to start for next year?
