(From an ad in the Journal): ICE CREAM SODA 15¢
We kept the price down to 10¢ in the face of rapidly rising costs as long as we possibly could, but were forced to advance to maintain the high standard of drinks served at our fountains. Through all times and conditions you’ll find Liggett’s Ice Cream Soda the same delicious, nourishing drink, and we’ve recently increased the amount of ice cream to each service. Plain Cream Sodas are 10¢ and plain Sodas without cream. A clean, dry, polished glass with each service.

Flashing blue lights lit up the sky over Lower Main Street in Norway Saturday night as state and local police conducted a roadblock to check for drivers operating under the influence. They found two in the area and one with a suspended license. “Good evening, we’re performing a safety road check, looking for drunk drivers. Have you had anything to drink tonight?” Paris officer David Verrier asked the driver of one car after signaling it to stop between the line of cones in the middle of Route 26 beside Swan Supply Inc. “Every car stops and we don’t detain them any more than 20 seconds at a time,” explained Maine State Police Sgt. Percy Turner who supervised the four-hour operation which included 15 officers from Maine State Police, Norway and Paris departments. “If we think they might have been drinking we ask them to pull over and we take a second look,” he said. If a car was pulled to the side of the road, the officer asked the driver to do a test, it might have been a simple question or instruction to walk a line with their hands at their side.
