Q&A

1) What legislation do you support, if any, to address the state’s opiate crisis?
LD 1646 (2016) passed with overwhelming bipartisan support and limits/monitors opioid prescriptions and requires addiction training. Maine was the third state to pass such legislation. A great first step.

2) What legislation do you support, if any, to address failures in the state’s child abuse prevention system?
The Legislature did recently pass legislation focused on DHHS policy and child abuse prevention, but I am unaware of any currently pending legislation on this issue.

3) Should schools continue to push forward with proficiency-based diplomas? Why or why not?
No. Our children should not be used as educational guinea pigs in DOE’s experiment laboratory. Let’s get back to reading, writing and arithmetic, and refocus on the trades. College isn’t for everyone.

4) Are you in favor of some type of universal health care for Maine residents? Why, or why not?
No. Open the markets and get government out of the healthcare business. Government healthcare is inefficient, more expensive, less responsive, more complicated, stifles competition and suppresses innovation.

5) Do you support Question 1 (the 3.8% tax to fund the home care program)? Why, or why not?
No. All four candidates for governor oppose this Maine People’s Alliance scam. Question 1 is reckless, flawed and sets dangerous precedents. Bad policy, bad for Maine and at catastrophic taxpayer expense.

6) Are you frustrated by the political sniping, exaggeration and even lies between the parties and their supporters that have threatened progress usually reached through respect and reasoned compromise? If so, what will you personally do to make the situation better?

The Sun Journal’s political sniping, exaggeration and white lies threaten progress usually reached via respect/compromise, stoking divisiveness. Short of acquiring the paper there’s little we can do.

7) Tell voters something about yourself that they don’t already know, and might surprise them.
I used to race factory 2-Stroke Gran Prix motorcycles, climb very high mountains, snowboard the west, rock climb and shoot 16mm winter sports films!
