A Sun Journal story on the front page of the local section Dec. 19 has Auburn Police Chief Phil Crowell observing that traffic stops lead to slower traffic.

Well, duh!

He then goes into an explanation of: ticket = fine, some people can’t afford to pay, then get a court date, maybe additional fines, maybe have to take a day off from work, more cost to the offender.

So what? They broke the law. I don’t feel sorry for them.

There are drivers speeding 50-55 mph on Minot Avenue all the way in to Blackie’s vegetable stand, and it is not unusual for some to drive 60-65 mph heading out to Minot. It happens all the time.

Those people do not deserve anything less than a ticket.

What are taxpayers paying for, anyway?
