This is in response to Mary Jane Newell (Sept. 29), “Democrats filled with hate.”
Once again, Newell submits one of her poison-penned screeds castigating anyone not in lock step with her political beliefs. What dismays me most about her pernicious persistence is her penchant for assigning shame on Democrats.
My grandmother had this saying I’ve tried very hard to employ in my life: “Using shame to get what you want rarely provides what you expect.”
Additionally, perhaps the following quote, attributed to Oscar Wilde, may have some effect: “Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.”
Joseph Keelan, West Gardiner
