LIVERMORE FALLS — Police charged a Livermore Falls man on Friday in connection with a hit-and-run accident that knocked a 75-year-old woman with a cane to the ground.

Sgt. Joe Sage issued summonses to Andrew Blais, 23, on charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, failure to report a personal injury accident, operating after suspension and operating while distracted, said Amanda Leclerc, administrative assistant for the Livermore Falls Police Department.

Blais was backing out of a parking spot Wednesday at Cumberland Farms while talking on his cell phone and said he didn’t see the woman walking to the store, Leclerc said. He told police he felt the hit and then stopped, and then he got out of the vehicle still talking on his cell phone, and after he asked her if she was OK and she said she was, he left, Leclerc said.

The incident was recorded on a store surveillance camera.

When store employees rushed out to help the woman, she declined medical assistance and walked home. The woman received bruises to her knees, police said previously.

The accident was not reported until nearly three hours after it happened. Store employees contacted a representative of the company and they were advised to report it to police.

Blais is scheduled to appear on May 12 at Lewiston District Court.
