AUBURN — The St. Mary’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders will sponsor an information session titled “What is Osteoporosis and How is it Linked to Cancer?” from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, March 9, in the second floor conference room at the Center for Physical Rehabilitation, St. Mary’s Auburn Campus, corner of Gracelawn Road and Turner Street.

There are many risk factors when it comes to the bone disease osteoporosis. Not getting enough calcium, poor posture and living a sedentary lifestyle are just a few. Certain cancer treatments could also put people at greater risk for weak and fragile bones.

St. Mary’s physical therapist Becky Harrington will explain what osteoporosis is, its symptoms, how it is diagnosed and how cancer patients have a higher risk for developing the disease. She will also provide strategies for achieving better bone health.
