LISBON – James R. Turner, 60, of Lisbon, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine. He was the son of Allen Turner and Priscilla Bartol Turner.  Jim was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on January 24, 1958. He was educated in Swampscott, Massachusetts graduating from Class of ’76. He later obtained his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Maine in Augusta in 2003.  Jim spent a number of years driving for Federal Express. He, at one point, tried his hand at owing and running a breakfast and lunch restaurant.  Jim also worked as a paraprofessional at the middle school level working with disadvantaged youth.  After many years driving, he retired from Frito-Lay, in Scarborough, Maine, just last year. Jim enjoyed playing golf at Val Halla Golf Course, in Cumberland Maine. He also was an active mentor for the Big Brother Big Sister Association of Southern Maine. One of Jim’s most cherished responsibilities was lovingly mentoring and thoroughly enjoying his time with two special young men:  Strider and Gallagher Grant.  Jim joined Maine Marine’s-Toys for Tots where he was a long time friend, supporter and volunteer.  He was instrumental in the success of the program over the past few years.  Jim also enjoyed wood working and volunteering at U.S. Senior Open events across the country in his spare time. Survivors include; his parents, his siblings:  Robert Turner, David Turner,  Debra Walsh and her husband, David, Steven Turner and his wife, Teri, Wendy Thomas and her husband, Tim, Cynthia Vickers and her husband, Andrew, Melissa Turner and Brian Turner.  He was an uncle to: Nicholas, Christine, Sean, Keith, Derek, Kaci and Lexie and a great uncle to Caleb and Adalyn.  A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the Albert and Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine Street, Lewiston, ME, 04240, on Friday, October 19, 2018, from 4 pm – 7 pm with a liturgy of the word to follow. Another celebration of Jim’s will be held next week at the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn, MA 01904. Unwrapped toy donations may be donated in his memory at the service and will be collected by the Maine’s Marines to be distributed during the Christmas season.
