FARMINGTON — The Evergreen Child Development Center and the Franklin County Children’s Task Force invite residents to a free education session of sign-supported speech, a communication class for parents, caregivers, daycare providers and anyone working with non-verbal children, to be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 29, May 6 and 13, at the task force.
Sign-supported speech is signing key words as parents talk to and with their child, facial expression and body language included as additional communication tools. Specific vocabulary will be determined by participants’ needs.
A DVD will be available after the last class that will contain all vocabulary taught. Instructor Sherry Walrath, NTC, ASLTA, has 35 years of teaching experience. Light refreshments will be served. There will be child care available with one week advanced notice.
