LEWISTON — It’s going to be unseasonably cold Saturday, a good day to stay indoors.

For those who want to learn something new without committing to a lengthy course, Lewiston Adult Education is hosting “Super Saturday” on March 27. A host of workshops will be held, offering everything from crafts to teaching kids and parents basic automotive skills.

A new, one-day course is Automotive Awareness taught by Peter Gagnon, who used to teach automotive classes. The course is for parents and their children, wanna-be drivers or the newly licensed.

Gagnon’s agenda includes teaching students and their parents to be prepared on the road, how to use jumper cables and do preventive maintenance; which fluids go where under the hood, and what’s safe to touch.

The class will also show parents what to look for when buying a car for their teens, and what trouble spots to look at in a car after their teen has been driving it for a few months.

Gagnon, the assistant director at the Lewiston Regional Technical Center, said he sees a need for the class. Parents and young drivers need to be more aware of the basics of how a car runs and what to look out for when driving.

Other one-day classes offered Saturday include basket weaving, CPR and first aid, basic computer skills, sewing, seashell and glass sun catchers, bead weaving, introduction to e-mail marketing and introduction to West African drumming. There’s even one on tricks to help you spell better.
