Students from Mrs. Hamann’s seventh-grade math classes at Lewiston Middle School took part in World Math Day on March 3, alongside more than one million students from 235 countries to correctly answer nearly 480 million questions. Students registered at the Web site www.worldmathsday.com and created their own avatars to represent themselves in the competition. Participants played at school and at home against others around the world in live games of arithmetic on the site. Each game lasted for 60 seconds and students were able to play up to 500 games, earning points for each correct answer. All students who participated received a digital certificate. The top three students from Hamann’s classes who received gold medals were Sabrina Nadeau, first place; Muna Mohamed, second; and Billy Dyment, third.
