AUBURN — With at least 192 residents expecting the city to pick up brush curbside, city crews should begin planning the fastest and most efficient collection route.

Friday is the last day for residents to register to have the city collect their brush and branches curbside. Those interested it the city’s program should call 333-6670 to register. As of Thursday, 192 residents had signed up for the collections.

“A few of them are doing it with their neighbors,” said Angela Dow, administrative assistant at Auburn Public Works. “But most are just happy we’re doing it.”

Gary Wadsworth, operations manager for Auburn Public Works, said the city will use specialized routing software to begin mapping out the collection route.

“We’ll give them a week to do that work, and then we’ll get started,” he said. Crews will begin collecting brush and branches on June 7.

The City Council canceled the regular curbside collection program in April, but later voted to offer a limited collection to residents who were willing to register.

Crews will only collect brush and branches. The city created a $20 coupon program to handle other bulky trash — including old furniture, appliances and and waste building materials. Residents may bring those things to the Mid-Maine Waste Action Corp. on Goldthwaite Road. Tickets are on sale at the Public Works office on Gracelawn Road or in the City Clerk’s Office in the Auburn City Building.

“We have door hangars that we’re going to leave for people if they have furniture or appliances left out for us to collect,” Wadsworth said. “We’ll remind them about the city coupon program.”
