NASHVILLE – Angela Adams, formerly of Sabattus and a graduate of Oak Hill High School, competed at the Southern Powerlifting Federation (SPF) Powerlifting and Bench Press National Championships over the weekend.

Adams, who now lives in Oak Ridge, Tenn., competed in the Women’s Unequipped Powerlifting event which consists of the squat, bench press and deadlift. Adams recorded a 335-pound squat, which ranks her sixth on the Powerlifting Watch Lifter Rankings. She weighs 180 pounds.

The rankings incorporate the top 20 squats, bench presses, deadlifts, and totals performed by women in the past 12 months (in the U.S. or by American lifters) and are broken out by weight class and equipment type (raw, single ply, and multi ply).

Adams added a 235-pound bench press, good for fifth on the Lifter Rankings, and a 370-pound deadlift. Adams’ 940-pound total earned her first place, an elite athlete classification and fifth overall on the Lifter rankings.

The standards, which range from Class IV thru Elite, are used to measure a lifter’s strength, progress & expertise when performing all three lifts that make up the sport. By adding an athlete’s heaviest squat, bench and deadlift together from a sanctioned competition, a total is achieved. Adams also broke her own SPF Raw Tennessee Record and set an SPF National record for the sub masters category.

She is the daughter of Brian and Carolyn Adams of Sabattus.
