LEWISTON — French artist Martine-Alison Chabert of L’Etrat, Francem, who is traveling to the United States for the first time, will give a talk at L/A Arts’ Gallery 5 on Saturday, June 12.
Her three-week visit is concentrated in New England, and the June 12 event is her only public talk. She will address the audience in both French and English, accompanied by her artist-host and translator, Susan Roux.
Martine-Alison’s talk will cover the message behind her paintings, what inspires her and her creative process. She will talk about the differences in exhibiting in France compared to the United States. She is represented by the Blue Heron Gallery on Cape Cod.
Chabert’s oil paintings are colorful, imaginative figurative pieces. She paints sensual females with mysterious gazes. The intense, evocative expressions of her “petite femmes” seem to come right out of the canvas. These lovely representational women are set in playful, lush vegetation born of the artist’s imagination. A range of exotic animals appear in the paintings as a male counterpart, eyeing the enchanting females.
Chabert, who has been painting since age 4, is also currently represented in Lyon. She has exhibited throughout France, including the Galerie Francis Barlier in Paris.
The artist talk, which is free, will begin at 6 p.m. at the gallery at 49 Lisbon St. Reservations are encouraged; call 782-7228.
