Legion sale

BUCKFIELD — A yard sale will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at the Legion Hall, Route 140. There will be fresh strawberry shortcakes, hot dogs, a food sale and a plant sale.

Proceeds will benefit the American Legion Post 58 and Auxiliary. For more information, call Mary Jones at 366-2611.

Bean supper

PARIS — A bean supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at the First Baptist Church of Paris on Paris Hill. The supper will include home baked beans, brown bread , casseroles, hot dogs, salads, rolls, biscuits, desserts and all the fixings.

The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Proceeds will benefit the Church General Fund and 10 percent will go to the Community Food Pantry.

Legion dance

SOUTH PARIS — The Jones Dance Band will play old fashioned dance music at the Legion Hall on Church Street from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 3. The cost is $5. The lunch counter will be open.

Clothing center open

HARTFORD — The Hartford Community Church Clothing Center will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3 and 17. The clothing center is located on Church Street, directly opposite the Hartford Community Church.

Socrates Cafe

WATERFORD — A Socrates Cafe gathering will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 5, at the Waterford Library. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome.

Free movie

NORWAY — The Tuesday night free movie at the Second Congregational Church, UCC, 205 Main St., on July 6, will be “Herbie Fully Loaded,” with Lindsay Lohan. Those attending are asked to bring their blankets or chairs.

The movie will be shown at 8 p.m. in the church parking lot. Light refreshments will be available at 7 p.m. For more information, call the church office at 743-2290.

Workshop

PARIS — A workshop will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Paris Utility District Office, 1 Paris Hill Road.

Bridge play

OXFORD — The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met June 25 in the new location, 221 King St. A four-and-a-half Howell movement was enjoyed. Finishing first was Nick K. and Paul Kahl; second, Errol and Pamela Libby; third, Martha Young and Richard Allen.
