AUBURN – Roland R. Saucier, 86, a resident of the Blanchard Road, Auburn died Monday, June 28, at the Hospice House after a short illness with family and friends by his side.
He was born in Lewiston, Nov. 14, 1923, the son of Philip and Ida (Bouget) Saucier.
An avid storyteller, he grew up and was raised in the Lewiston and Auburn area. Following his education, he was employed at a young age to help his family at home. He was the sixth of eight children.
He was very proud of serving in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed more than 30 years for Auburn Public Works going up though the ranks from laborer to retiring as superindentent of Auburn Public Works in 1985.
He was active member and past president of the East Auburn Community Unit formerly known as the East Auburn Men’s Club, the F&G Square Dance Association for more than 20 years where both he and his wife, Joan loved to spend time together as a hobby.
Survivors include one son, William R. Saucier and his wife, Lucille, of Auburn; one daughter, Patricia Riley and her husband, Tom, of Delaware; five sisters, Eva Marcotte of Massachusetts, Irene Sirois of Brewer, Beatrice Saucier of Massachusetts, Germaine Saucier of Nebraska, and Florence DiFormado and her husband, Flash, of Florida; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, of whom he was most proud.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Philip and Maurice Saucier, both of Washington state.
