NORWAY — Frost Farm Gallery will hold a First Friday reception for its “In Harmony With Nature” exhibit on July 2, when people can meet internationally acclaimed artist, sculptor and conservationist Vito DeVito.
A graduate of Seton Hall University, DeVito studied extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Seasonally, the DeVito family travels to its Norway, Maine, home where the artist is always inspired by the state’s endless beauty.
DeVito is currently painting for three international groups: Ducks Unlimited, Safari Club International and The International Game Fish Association. Ducks Unlimited asked DeVito to create a new painting every year from 1994 to 2010. He recently completed his 12th painting. These works for Ducks Unlimited are in demand among conservation, fishing and environmental organizations throughout the United States.
This past year, DeVito worked with Master PrintMaker and Dan Welden, innovator of the Solarplate method of etching.
Rounding out the artist’s commissions list are requests for life-size busts in bronze and portrait work in all mediums.
At the reception, from 5 to 8 p.m., keyboard music will be provided by Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School musician Mike Maurice. The event is free.
The “In Harmony With Nature” exhibit and sale will continue at Frost Farm Gallery through Saturday, July 31. Frost Farm is at 272 Pikes Hill.
First Friday art openings at Frost Farm Gallery are in conjunction with the Lajos Matolcsy Arts Center, Commons Art Collective, Norway Memorial Library, McLaughlin Garden and Painted Mermaid Gallery. For more information, call 743-8041.
