OLD TOWN, Maine (AP) — A Maine soldier killed in Afghanistan has been laid to rest with a rifle salute, a bugler playing taps and a flyover by four Black Hawk helicopters.
A funeral was held Friday for Staff Sgt. Brandon Silk, a Black Hawk helicopter crew chief. He was killed June 21 during what officials describe as a “hard landing.”
Flags across the state were at half-staff for Silk’s funeral, a private service at United Baptist Church in Old Town. A graveside service followed at Lawndale Cemetery.
The 2003 Orono High School graduate served with the 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Ky.
