DIXFIELD — William R. “Dickie” Frost, a Dixfield Public Works employee for more than 21 years, retired Thursday, vowing not to plow snow anymore from town roads or sand them.

It’s a job he said he did first for the town of Peru for many years before he was hired by Dixfield.

However, he said he didn’t have any retirement plans at Thursday’s send-off party by town officials and fellow workers in Ludden Memorial Library’s meeting room.

“But my son-in-law’s got a Kubota that I might play with a bit,” Frost said.

Prior to socializing and dining on food supplied by the town office and a large cake made by Marlene Bryant of Dixfield, Town Manager Eugene Skibitsky wished Frost well.

He then joked with Frost, saying, “I’m sorry today, Dickie, but we don’t have a bench shined up for you, so you’ll have to share one with your brothers.”

Board of Selectmen Chairman Bettina Martin then thanked Frost for his work and presented him with a gift, as did a Dixfield American Legion commander, who granted Frost full membership in the legion.

Frost recalled that he worked for eight or nine town managers in Dixfield, but was done plowing snow.

“I’ve had enough of that,” he said. “I wish the town the best of luck, because they’re going to need it. It’s been a good 21 years.”
