STRATTON — The Dead River Area Historical Society will feature the “Arnold Trail Hotel, The Roger’s and Kern’s Inn” exhibit on Sunday, July 25.

The businesses are now known as The Plaza, White Wolf and Mike’s Pub and Grub. A lot of people in the area worked at these places. They were the first businesses in the area, even before Sugarloaf, and not only did they run successful restaurants they created all kinds of activities.

Ed Kern was known for his Saint Patrick Day celebrations, Roger for Tall Timber Days and hydro-boat races, to name a few, and the Arnold Trail Hotel has been around for decades and was the only lodging in town for many years.

The museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On display in the museum are artifacts, manuscripts and photographs that have been donated or loaned by interested townspeople and descendants of original families of the Dead River Region. Collections include old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, a church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the lost towns of Flagstaff and Dead River, the lineage of several native families and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.
