Idol Hands, one of New England’s premier acoustic ensembles, will be featured in concert at Lovell’s Brick Church for the Performing Arts on Saturday, July 24.

The evening’s performance may include some original songs, original instrumentals, traditional folk songs, blues, bluegrass standards and more.

Formed 10 years ago, the group is made up of Peter Heimlich, known for his guitar work; Doug Hazard, singer-songwriter, mostly mandolin; and Bob Peelstrom, versatile instrumentalist/composer — all of whom had played together off and on for 20 years with such groups as The Cold River String Band, Hazard & Heimlich and Patchy Ground Fog. Lisa Ferguson joined them to add a bass-playing vocalist.

The multitalented members of the quartet live in different towns in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.

Hazard sold his first songs while still in high school. He is currently recording his fourth solo album on the 3 Lb. Hammer label. In Idol Hands he mostly plays mandolin.

Heimlich’s guitar work  is in demand by singer-songwriters throughout the area. He also brings to Idol Hands his unique, eclectic repertoire of songs.

Peelstrom has played bluegrass with many of the icons of the genre. He also has played electric guitar with Bo Diddley and other icons of that genre.  These days Peelstrom concentrates on the banjo, from which he elicits a surprising versatility, and on which he composes fascinating instrumental numbers.

Ferguson has performed solo and in a variety of duos and larger groups. Fluent on the guitar, the hammered dulcimer and any number of other instruments, Ferguson anchors Idol Hands playing the bass and singing. She also teaches music to the children of Tamworth, N.H. at the Kenneth A. Brett School, and writes some beautiful songs.

The group released its first album, “The Old DoubleWide,” in 2005 on the 3 Lb. Hammer label. A second album release is expected in 2011.

Idol Hands will be playing at 7:30 pm on Saturday, July 24at the Brick Church for the Performing Arts on Christian Hill Road (just off Route 5) in Lovell. Tickets are available at the door: adults $10, children 12 and under $5. Refreshments will be served. For more information, go to www.lovellbrickchurch.org or call 207-925-2792.
