MONMOUTH — A riddle, headless princes, a murder plot, famine, a shipwreck, a tournament, feasting, a marriage, a horrible storm at sea, a childbirth — and that’s all before intermission.
The Theater At Monmouth will present William Shakespeare’s “Pericles, Prince of Tyre,” opening at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 30, with additional performances on July 31 and Aug. 1, 5, 11, 14 and 19 at Cumston Hall.
This marks the first time TAM has staged Shakespeare’s adventure tale of love, danger and mystery.
Hero Pericles grows up and leaves his home in search of his identity. He finds great love, loses all and experiences the darkest night of the soul.
“Pericles, Prince of Tyre” is a true ensemble production with the cast playing two dozen characters.
Tickets are $26 opening night. All other shows are $24 for adults, $22 for seniors and matinees, $20 for students. For tickets and show times, call 933-9999 or visit www.theateratmonmouth.org.
Besides “Pericles,” TAM’s season repertory includes Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors;” Mark Twain’s “Is He Dead?;” George Bernard Shaw’s “Misalliance;” and its children’s show, Oscar Wilde’s “The Canterville Ghost.” Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance” will close the season.
