HOLLIS, Maine (AP) — The Maine medical examiner’s office has confirmed that the deaths of a husband and wife in Hollis were a murder-suicide.

Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland said autopsies concluded Thursday that 44-year-old Freda Lagarde died from multiple gunshot wounds; her husband, 50-year-old Mike Lagarde, died from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

McCausland says investigators believe the shootings happened Tuesday night. The bodies were recovered Wednesday, along with a 9mm hunting rifle used in the shootings.

McCausland says detectives talked to neighbors, family and friends and were unable to determine what sparked the violence. He says there was no suicide note.
