OKLAHOMA CITY – A former river valley resident received a regional Emmy award last week for her work with the broadcast team of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder.
Shauna Hawthorne, who was born in Mexico before relocating to Seminole, Fla., was among those honored for best live coverage of a sports event. The group was cited for its coverage of the Thunder’s road game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 22, 2009.
Hawthorne, 27, was a production coordinator on the broadcast. Broadcasts in Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming also wereeligible for the award.
The Thunder’s weekly magazine show, “Air Thunder,” also was nominated for best sports program series.
Hawthorne is the daughter of Allen and Linda Hawthorne. She played Division I softball at Fairleigh-Dickinson University in New Jersey and has worked with the Thunder for the past three years.
