JAY — Three athletes registered goals for Telstar as they kicked off the 2010 field hockey campaign with a 3-0 victory over Jay in opening-day MVC action Wednesday.
Kayla Merrill ignited scoring for the Rebels (1-0) with 18 minutes left in the first half. Lindsey Merrill took a nice feed from Jamie Stevens and fired it into the net with 19:18 remaining to make it a 2-0 contest. Katie Sumner tallied the final goal on her own with 2:14 left in regulation.
Sam Tibbetts and Tabby Corriveau combined for five saves for Telstar, while the Tigers (0-1) saw Ashlee Quirion turned aside 22 shots in the contest.
Livermore Falls 6, Dirigo 0
DIXFIELD — Samantha Greenwood netted three goals to lead Livermore Falls to a 6-0 romp over Dirigo in another MVC field hockey tilt Wednesday.
Kim Theriault chipped in for the Andies (1-0) with two goals, while a single tally by Kathryn Ventrella completed the scoring.
OOB 5, Poland 1
POLAND — Old Orchard Beach erupted with three goals in the second half and glided off with a 5-1 win over Poland in a field hockey opener Wednesday.
Zoe Armstrong, Jamie Crowley, Emily Brooker, Carissa Erickson and Daphne Allen each scored a goal for the Seagulls. The Knights’ lone goal came in the first half when Heidi Chapman dropped one in the net.
The Seagulls outshot the Knights, 20-3.
Lisbon 4, Hall-Dale 0
LISBON — MaKayla Stevens led a group of four players to record goals as Lisbon rolled to a 4-0 victory over Hall-Dale in more opening-day field hockey action Wednesday.
Crystal Ingerson, Hannah Jordan and Lyndsey Whitney also tallied for the Greyhounds (1-0) to complete the scoring. Stevens was credited with a pair of assists to go along with her first-period goal.
Hailey Jamison didn’t ned a single save to notch the shutout, while Kayla Barton turned aside an impressive 35 shots between th posts for Hall-Dale.
