OES to meet
SABATTUS — Lakeside Chapter 60, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Grange-Masonic Hall, 322 Centre Road, to honor the stations of Conductress and Associate Conductress. After the short meeting, Phillip Hubbard, past grand patron, will present the program, “Weaving the Labyrinth,” for the edification of all.
Ladies are reminded to wear colored gowns, gentlemen tuxes or dark suits. Light refreshments will be served.
Society meeting
NEW GLOUCESTER — The New Gloucester Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26. The meeting will begin at the Shaker Library to view the new exhibit “Creating Chosen Land: Our Home 1783-2010,” the most comprehensive architectural history display ever done on a single Shaker village.
Quilt show
DURHAM — The Durham Historical Society will host the fourth annual quilt and hooked rug show and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at 744 Royalsborough Road, Route 136. The event is a fundraiser to benefit the Restoration Fund.
Textiles crafted by local artisans will be on display. Homemade baked beans and brown bread will be available for takeout and a large selection of pies and baked goods will be offered.
Photo contest
NEW GLOUCESTER — New Gloucester students in grades five to 12 are invited to participate in the “My Town” student photo contest sponsored by the New Gloucester Historical Society. Photos must be new and show people or places in New Gloucester.
The photos will be displayed in the New Gloucester History Barn. Top three places will be judged by town and school staff. Honorable mentions also will be included. Deadline for photo submission is Oct. 9. For more information, e-mail [email protected] or visit www.newgloucester.com.

Sodality to meet
LEWISTON — The Rosary Sodality of Prince of Peace Parish will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Holy Cross Seniors Hall with recitation of the Rosary at 6 p.m., followed by a business meeting, when plans for the 2010-2011 year will be made. Refreshments will bring the meeting to a close.
Fortier chapter
LEWISTON — The Dr. Paul J. Fortier Chapter 52 of the Association Canado-Americaine will gather at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, in the Senior Citizens room of the Multi-Purpose Center.
Following the business meeting, author Denis Ledoux will give a presentation titled “Turning Memories into Memoirs,” in which he will explain the five steps involved in writing down personal recollections to be shared with family members and passed down to future generations. A question and answer session will follow, with refreshments to be served by Aliette and Ron Couturier.

Country show
LITCHFIELD — Down East Country Music Association artists will perform from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Litchfield Fair. Scheduled to appear are Fred Couverette and The Country Gentlemen, Mike Ferrucci, Potpourri, Walter Weymouth and Ryan Reed, and Marji Sylvester. The Litchfield Fair is located at 30 Plains Road.
