Benefit supper

DURHAM — A benefit baked bean supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Acacia Masonic Lodge, Route 136, near the Get-N-Go. Proceeds will benefit a little girl with cancer.

Bridge play

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Sept. 7 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Flight A winners were: first, Richard Balian and Patricia Quinn; second, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; third, Mary Anne Trafton and Kathleen Burden; fourth, David Lock and Fred Letourneau; fifth, Helen Little and Lucille Theriault.

Flight B winners were: first, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; second, Mary Anne Trafton and Kathleen Burden. Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the center.

The club also met on Sept. 8 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners were: first, Luke Merry and Paul Barber; second, Fred Letourneau and Sherry Hinckley; third, Mary Anne Trafton and Kathleen Burden; fourth, John Hackett and Leslie Buzzell.

Another game will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed at both games. For further information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.

Annual tribute

FREEPORT — The Freeport Flag Ladies will hold their ninth annual 9/11 Tribute from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the corner of Main and School streets. Those attending are encouraged to bring a flag if available. The group will have flags available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Freeport Flag Ladies have been standing on Main Street with their flags every Tuesday morning since Sept. 11, 2001, and they were recently presented with the National Guard Crystal Award of Excellence by Major General Libby for their work with the Maine Army National Guard. All are welcome to attend the tribute.

Harvest festival

AUBURN — The Park Avenue Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization will hold the fourth annual Harvest Festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Wallingford’s Apple Orchards on Perkins Ridge Road.

Activities will include pony rides, a bounce house, games and crafts, face painting, pumpkins, cupcake walk, food and hand-painted memory stones.

Memory walk

LEWISTON — The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk will take place on Saturday, Sept. 25. Registration will begin at 9.m. at SeniorsPlus, 8 Falcon Road. There is no fee to register.

The 2.5-mile walk will start at 9:30 a.m., but participants may walk any distance. Before or after the walk, participants may make their donation to the Alzheimer Association at the registration desk or to the team leader.

T-shirts will be available for a $20 donation. Registration is also available at www.alz.org/memorywalk.

Society meeting

POLAND — Members of the Poland Historical Society will gather at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the Shaker Library, Shaker Road, New Gloucester, to view the Sabbathday Lake Shakers exhibit “Creating Chosen Land: Our Home 1783-2010.” 

As a group, they will then venture to the Spinhouse to view the exhibit. Leonard Brooks will be the guide and conduct the tour. A short business meeting will follow at the Shaker Library. Anyone interested is invited to join. For more information, call David at 998-2852, weekdays after 3:30 p.m.
