FARMINGTON, Maine (AP) — The mother of Maine’s attorney general, state bureau of health director and a state senator has died. Kay Mills of Farmington was 93.

Maine Gov. John Baldacci, whose office confirmed her passing Monday night, described her as “the matriarch of an incredible family.”

Her children include Attorney General Janet Mills; Dr. Dora Anne Mills, director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Republican state Sen. Peter Mills III. Her other children are Paul Mills, lawyer and historian, and David Mills, also of Farmington.

Mills came from Ashland, where her father was a potato farmer, and moved to Farmington after marrying S. Peter Mills III. The Portland Press herald says she taught English and Latin in several communities.
