PORTLAND – For the third straight year, Portland Boxing Club will host the USA Boxing New England championships.

The quarterfinals and semifinals will be held at the club on Nov. 6 and 13, with the championship finals at Stevens Avenue Armory on Saturday, Nov. 27.

Winners of the tournament will advance to the Region I championship in Lake Placid, N.Y., with winners there moving on to the U.S. Nationals in Colorado Springs, Colo., in March. National winners will receive a berth in the 2012 Olympic Trials.

This year’s special guest at the New England finals will be former heavyweight champion James “Buster” Douglas. He is best known for pulling off one of the greatest upsets in boxing history, knocking out the then-undefeated and feared Mike Tyson on Feb. 10, 1990 in the 10th round of their title fight.

Douglas will be available for photos and autographs at the card. Advance tickets are on sale at Bruno’s Restaurant, 33 Allen Ave., Portland. For more information, go to www.portlandboxingclub.org or call 761-0975.
