POLAND — Fire crews were called in to battle a blaze at a mulch pile on the Auburn-Poland town line Sunday night.

Battalion Chief Tim Allen of the Auburn Fire Department said that crews from both towns were called to Morse Brothers about 6 p.m. Sunday evening. The 213-acre bark mulch plant is located on Bark Mulch Drive in Poland, near Lewiston Junction Road.

Allen said that fire crews from Poland were called to the same location a week ago and that the fire was likely smoldering underground. He said that fire crews were awaiting the arrival of personnel from the company to use heavy equipment to break the mulch pile into smaller, more manageable piles.
