LEWISTON — Marshwood Center, a Genesis HealthCareSM Skilled Nursing Facility, recently announced that it has received a 2010 Maine Health Care Association Quality Improvement Award.

The award recognizes long-term care facilities that have made quality improvement and culture-based advances in care giving. The award also recognizes the center for receiving a bronze Commitment to Quality national quality award presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living.

The MHCA Award builds upon the statewide MHCA accreditation process that promotes the development of systematic ways to continually improve long-term care facility quality and increase staff retention.

Implemented by AHCA/NCAL in 1996, the National Quality Award Program is based on the core values and criteria of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Program. It provides a pathway for providers of long-term and post-acute care services to journey toward performance excellence.
