AUBURN — Harry W. “Bud” Woodard Jr., 90, of Auburn passed away on Thursday, Nov. 11, at Clover Health Care.

Mr. Woodard was born on Oct. 2, 1920, in Lewiston, the son of the late Harry and Mamie Baker Woodard. Mr. Woodard graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1938. He enlisted in the military serving with the 5th Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1946, during World War II.

Mr. Woodard worked in sales for 27 years. He was also the Executive Director for the Auburn Housing Authority for 18 years. In 1963, Mr. Woodard was elected Mayor of Auburn and he held that honor again in 1987. Previously, he served on the Auburn City Council from 1957 to 1961 and 1985 to 1987. Auburn has lost a remarkable citizen who loved and took a great deal of pride in the city.

Mr. Woodard was a member of the Auburn-Lewiston Kiwanis Club, a past master of Tranquil Lodge of Masons, member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Maine Consistory, SPRS, 32nd Degree, Kora Temple Shrine, Arab Patrol, serving as Captain, Auburn Board of Assessors, a past director of the Auburn Grandstand Club and a member of High Street Congregational Church. He was also a former member of Tri-County Mental Health Association, National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials and past president of the Maine Association of Public Housing Directors.

Mr. Woodard enjoyed gardening and took a great deal of pride in the appearance of his home and flower gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Janette Talcott Woodard of Auburn, whom he married Aug. 14, 1942; a son, Brian and his wife, Susan, of Kingston, N.Y.; two grandsons, Thomas and his wife, Amy, of Somerset, N.J., and Jeffrey and his wife, Jessica, of Frisco, Texas; a great-grandson, Jack; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth of Somerset, N.J.

He was predeceased by a son, Stephen C. Woodard.

Our family thanks the wonderful people at Schooner Estates, Brenda Smutny, Donna Vachon, Mark Prevost, Frank Proulx and Claire Keeney and the many PCA’s for all their help and making the years he resided at Schooner such a happy and pleasant time.
