LEWISTON — Traffic was stopped briefly on Lisbon Street on Monday when a pickup truck collided with a school bus.

No injuries were reported, Sgt. Brian O’Malley of the Lewiston Police Department said.

The accident occurred short after 3:30 p.m. near the Winn Street intersection.

It slowed traffic heading into town, said a driver who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. The driver wished to remain anonymous, but said that the school bus was blocking the northbound lanes, forcing motorists to drive through adjacent parking lots.

“The kids didn’t get off the bus,” he said, but “were shouting from the windows.”

The witness also said that police got to the scene roughly 10 minutes after his arrival.

The pickup truck was driven by Gerard Leblond of Grove Street. The vehicle had some damage to its bed, according to the witness.

Representatives from Hudson Bus Lines, which is hired by the Lewiston School Department to transport students, did not respond to calls made Monday night, and the identity of the bus driver was unknown as of 9 p.m.
