LEWISTON — December at the Center for Wisdom’s Women, a drop-in center, includes two programs mid-month to help with stress relief during the holidays.

Peg Hoffman will teach a class on “Managing Holiday Stress” at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13. She is a local occupational therapist who teaches holistic health. She will share skills for calming, pacing and keeping expectations reasonable in this season.

A new monthly QiGong class will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14.  An ancient Chinese movement art, QiGong is a series of flowing, slow, gentle motions.  It includes meditation, standing or sitting, intentional breathing, and can be done by anyone regardless of physical condition or ability.

Two ongoing one-on-one opportunities continue. Pam Beliveau will be at the center from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20. She  focuses on the inner spirit by offering 15 to 20 minute conversations for spiritual direction.

Shanna Rogers from the Neighborhood Housing League will be at the center from 10 to 11 a.m. each Monday to consult with anyone about landlord and tenant issues.

Denise Dill from St. Mary’s Nutrition Center of Maine will teach her monthly class at the center on Wednesday, Dec. 15. The focus will be on eating well on a tight budget and includes sampling of seasonal dishes. Participants will go home with a recipe for each.

Holiday activities will include a Christmas party from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17. A craft class will make tree ornaments at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7.

Christmas stories will be shared during the writing workshop at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20. A holiday sing-a-long is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23.

Other regular programs include a painting class on Thursday mornings with Dot Treadwell; a scrapbooking group and card-making class; and small groups that focus on building self-esteem.

The center will be closed between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, Dec. 24 and 30. A New Year’s Eve celebration with stories, drumming, singing, munchies and more will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 31.
